A few years ago just before Covid-19 my husband and I have taken on the privilege of caring for my 95 yr old Mother and 92 yr old Mother in law.
Days can be stressful beyond belief and I have often wanted to get in my car and just keep driving, never looking back. We have missed may vacations and get togethers because we are full-time caregivers and often feel forgotten by friends and family. I can’t tell you how many times we have been told “you’re doing the right thing” and I just want to SCREAM…. YES “we” are doing the right thing. Something you would never do or understand.
This has tested my inner strength beyond belief and test my marriage right to the breaking point.
And just when I think I can’t do this anymore I remember all the wonderful memories we are making and having with the “Moms” Laughs and giggles that no one else sees or hears. Stories that we have heard that we would have never known without having them live with us. It’s the little moments that we cherish because we know one day we will miss the stories, the laughs and giggles.
I pray to God every day to give me strength. Strength to get thru another medical emergency, another day navigating the Health System, finding the right Dr, finding the right medication, finding the right pair of shoes that don’t hurt their feet. No one knows what we go thru day to day but then again no one know all the memories we’re making to get us thru another day.
